Alltheweb is the showcase for FAST and its search technology. The web search unit was recently purchased by Overture, who have subsequently sold out to Yahoo. Alltheweb does not currently use results from anywhere else in its results. FAST supply results to Lycos.

FAST are probably the closest competitor to Google in the free search engine stakes, with a database numbering around 2 billion documents, including the same sort of multimedia (images, video and MP3 files) facilities, and highly relevant results. For instance, alltheweb.cm was the first search engine to support full indexing of content in Flash files, after a deal with Macromedia.

Yahoo are currently working on integrating their purchases, with a view to creating a free search database to rival or exceed Google. FAST technology will play a big part in that database and its success.
